Tieing it down

I remember it was mandatory to put on a tie in primary school years; it was a weekly routine, donning ties and singing our alma mater’s song.  It also serves as a convenient noose around our necks, and we squirmed as we buttoned up. Nowadays other worldly issues (paying your bills, paying tax) serve as the noose of choice. The mental noose is definitely deadlier.

Blue ties are apparently popular, and it signifies confidence and poise according to some school of thoughts (arh, the psychology of colors). I did wear a black one to my first interview though, and I wonder if it is of any coincidence it turned out to be the most disastrous yet.

Well if everybody puts on the same color I wonder what advantage might that confer, ironically.
